Fantasy Football: Start/Sit Week 8

Hi, it’s Aaron Truesdale and I’m back and ready to give you the fantasy advice you need for the upcoming NFL season. Also, I answer any fantasy questions you may have every Thursday morning through Sunday on Facebook under various fantasy football groups. Be sure to follow me on Twitter.

Now, let me tell you a little bit about my start/sit column. Each week I will be giving my top 3 starts & my top 3 sits at each position. There will be a start & sit of the week at each position with projections. My column will not include the automatic starters. Automatic starters are guys you don’t bench unless they’re injured or on a bye week. I am going to give 2 examples of automatic starters at each position. QB: Josh Allen & Patrick Mahomes, RB: Christian McCaffery & Dalvin Cook, WR: Tyreke Hill & Stefon Diggs, TE: Travis Kelce & George Kittle, K: Justin Tucker & Harrison Butker. For defenses, Pittsburgh Steelers & Los Angeles Rams. Now, I’ve added a twist to my article that will mention a sleeper of the week at each position who did not make my top 3 starters list. Also, a player that is most likely on the waiver wire that you can stream if you’re in a jam at a position. Let’s get it going with Week 8!

Joe Burrow vs NYJ

Bengals' Joe Burrow becoming top-10 QB after win at Ravens

Projection: 36/41|420 YDS|3 TDS|5 CAR|45 YDS|1 TD

Look what Burrow did to that solid Ravens defense. Now Burrow gets the Jet’s defense he will have another monster game. The Bengals made a statement against the Ravens that they are no fluke this team is for real.

Daniel Jones vs KC

That Kansas City defense can’t stop anyone right now. It will be no different for the Giants. Daniel Jones will run all over the Chiefs literally and figuratively.

Carson Wentz vs TEN

Wentz makes a rare appearance on the start side of my article. Wentz is getting better each week and last week how he threw the ball in that terrible San Francisco weather was even more impressive. He will take another step forward and rip the Titans defense to shreds.

Tua Tagovailoa vs BUF

Projection: 15/43|187 YDS|3 INTS|1 FL|6 CAR|25 YDS|1 TD

Tua went from start of the week to sit of the week because that Bills defense is top-notch. He had only a solid game against a not-so-good Falcons defense. The Bill’s defense will be too much for Tua to handle. Plus in my eyes, the Dolphins don’t seem to have too much confidence in him with them trying to trade for Watson.

Teddy Bridgewater vs WAS

Bridgewater hasn’t been performing up to the standards that were expected of him and look for Bridgewater to continue his downward spiral so much so that I believe he will get benched for Drew Lock. This game will give that Washington defense the confidence boost it needs to get back to the defense they were last year.

Trevor Lawrence vs SEA

Lawrence will be refreshed coming off of the bye week but he is going to get tired pretty quick against a Seattle defense that has been playing better football lately. That just spells trouble this week for Lawrence.

Geno Smith vs. JAX

If you play matchups or need a bye week fill-in I would go with Geno Smith because that Jaguars defense is horrid. Plus Smith will shred that Jaguars defense with his arm and his legs.

D’Andre Swift vs PHI

NY Jets Fantasy Football: Winners and losers from Week 7

Projection: 12 CAR|101 YDS|1 TD|8 REC|85 YDS|1 TD

Swift would be considered a top 10 fantasy football RB if he played for a different team. Swift volume is too good in that Lions offense to look past. So don’t make a mistake start Swift against a mediocre at best Eagles defense. Swift will be a swift start this week in fantasy football.

Darrell Henderson vs HOU

Henderson had an off game but look for him to bounce back against a terrible Texans defense. The Rams will go up big early and run the ball more later in the game which means more volume for Henderson and he will make the best out of all the extra carries.

James Connor vs GB

Connor has gotten new life in Arizona. Connor has outproduced Edmonds and is getting better each week and that will continue as the season progresses. Plus his touchdown upside is another reason to start Connor against the Packers.

Mike Davis vs CAR

Projection: 3 CAR|7 YDS

Mike Davis is trash. He should be dropped in all fantasy football formats. Enough said.

Elijah Mitchell vs CHI

Mitchell ran the ball well last week against the Colts. This week against the Bears I believe they will use Hasty more than Mitchell and fewer carries means less production. I for one hope I am wrong because I have Mitchell on a couple of my fantasy football teams.

Myles Gaskins vs BUF

So if the pattern continues for Gaskin this week will be a no-show game for him. Plus the Dolphins will have to pass more to try and keep up with the Bills offense. That Bills defense is too good therefore Gaskins and the Dolphins will be stopped dead in their tracks.

Kenneth Gainwell vs DET

Sanders is probably going to be out this week and that will hugely open the door for Gainwell and he will gain fantasy football attention in a big way. So if you need a great fill-in player this week pick up and start Gainwell. Be sure to stash him as well.

D.J. Moore vs ATL

Best Player Props for D.J. Moore: Week 8 Carolina Panthers vs. Atlanta Falcons | BestOdds

Projection: 7 REC|115 YDS|2 TDS

Moore has had a couple of dud games in a row but he will bounce back against that trashy Falcons defense. So don’t bench him quite yet and you won’t regret your decision of sticking with Moore. Darnold will also use this game to get back on track and that is good news for Moore as well.

Mike Williams vs NE

Williams is fresh coming off a bye week and that is bad news for the Patriots. He will be a total nightmare for the Patriot’s secondary. He will be Bill Belichick and the Patriots Freddy Krueger.

Adam Thielen vs DAL

Thielen will be the Cowboy’s kryptonite this week. The Cowboys will focus on shutting down Jefferson and Cook like a lot of teams do and Thielen becomes the forgotten weapon and because of that, he will haunt the Cowboys.

Brandin Cooks vs. LAR

Projection: 3 REC|23 YDS

Let face it Cooks is the only true weapon for the Texans. I got one name for you, Jalen Ramsey. Just bench Cooks.

Jarvis Landry vs. PIT

Landry is a good receiver but that Steelers secondary is no joke and shouldn’t be overlooked. Landry will not be shut out and will make a few catches and have a few yards but it just won’t be enough production to be fantasy relevant.

Julio Jones vs IND

Jones is too injury-prone and is hard to trust right now in fantasy football. Jones is also more of a distraction right now to get Brown open in the Titan’s offense.

Russell Gage vs CAR

The Panther’s defense hasn’t been all that good lately. Gage could see a lot more targets with Pitts and Ridley playing so well. Which will mean more fantasy production from Gage. So if you need a fill-in WR and a sneaky play pick up and start Gage. On a side note, this was going to be Lazard because Adams went on the Covid list but unfortunately, I had to change it because Lazard ended up on the Covid list as well.

Zach Ertz vs GB

Zach Ertz debuts in Arizona with a TD reception

Projection: 6 REC|70 YDS|3 TDS

Ertz will be another huge weapon going forward for that explosive Cardinals offense. Now on a short week and Hopkins not practicing there is a slight chance he won’t play even though I believe Hopkins will play. Either way, Ertz is valuable this week because if D-Hop doesn’t play Ertz will be relied on a lot more, and even if D-Hop does play he is banged up and Ertz will be there to pick up that slack as well. Ertz is a can’t miss start at TE this week in fantasy football.

Dallas Goedert vs DET

Goedert will see plenty more targets now that Ertz is gone and those targets will turn into better production. Goedert is up against a lackluster Lions defense so he will be in for a big day. Don’t hesitate to start him.

Hunter Henry vs LAC

Henry is up against an underwhelming Chargers defense. So I haven’t been impressed with Jones’s performance so far but he is a rookie and will get better but Henry will still be good for 2 touchdowns this week.

Noah Fant vs WAS

Projection: 2 REC|11 YDS

Fant’s QB Situation isn’t ideal right now and the Washington defense will get back on track this week. So for those reasons leave Fant on your bench.

Dalton Schultz vs MIN

Vikings are top 10 in shutting down opposing tight ends this season. Plus there are many weapons in that offense and Schultz doesn’t get many touchdowns. With that said just look past him this week.

Mo Allie-Cox vs. TEN

Cox is going to be hit or miss this season also he is touchdown-dependent and with Hilton likely to be back again this week that means fewer targets for Cox in the red zone and that means Cox is best left on the waiver wire.

C.J. Uzomah vs. NYJ

Uzomah is breaking out and becoming a big weapon for Burrow and this week against the horrid Jets defense he could be in line for another huge day. So if you got bye week and injury bug blues pick up and start Uzomah. Then hold onto Uzomah because he could be one of those pickups that help you win your fantasy football Championship.

For Kickers and Defense. I’m only going to give a projection and an Explanation for the starts/sits of the week. The rest of the top 3 will just be listed with no explanation.

Evan McPherson vs NYJ

Evan McPherson's 53-yard field goal extends Bengals' 4th-quarter lead

Projection: 5 XPS|3 FGS

Bengals will be scoring plenty of points this week which leads to plenty of fantasy points for McPherson.

Greg Zuerlein vs MIN

Matt Gay vs HOU

Ka’imi Fairbairn vs LAR

Projection: 1 MFG

The Texans will be shut down by that stout Rams defense which means not many kicking opportunities for Fairbairn which equals a bad fantasy football day.

Jason Sanders vs BUF

Mason Crosby vs ARI

Greg Joesph vs DAL

The Vikings will score plenty of points so therefore if you need a Kicker to fill your bye week then pick up Joesph and you won’t be disappointed.

Cincinnati vs New York Jets

Cincinnati Bengals defense is motivated after poor season

Projection: 0 PTS|200 YDS|10 SKS| 2 INTS|2 FF|2 FR|1 TD

The Jets offense is one of the worst offenses in the NFL. The Bengals are a top 5 defense this season in the NFL. So you do math start the Bengals defense with confidence this week and maybe the rest of the season.

Buffalo Bills vs Miami

Washington vs. Denver

New England vs Los Angeles Chargers

Projection: 46 PTS|502 YDS|4 SKS

Patriots defense faces a Chargers team that is coming off a bad loss and a bye week. That will make them fresher than the Patriots. Also unfortunately for the Patriots, the Chargers will come out with an offensive explosion and bounce back in a huge way.

Arizona vs Green Bay

Dallas vs Minnesota

Seattle vs Jacksonville

The Seattle defense was complete trash to start this season but lately, they have been getting better and better as the season has progressed and I look for that trend to continue against a horrible Jaguars football team. So if you play matchups or need a fill-in at defense. Fly with the Seahawks.

I had a lot of fun writing this and I hope all of my week 8 start/sit advice helps everyone. I’ll be back next week with more fantasy start/sit advice.
