The Arizona Coyotes are down two goalies for a couple of days. Darcy Kuemper is considered week to week with a lower body injury. Antti Raanta is out for an unknown amount of time with an upper body injury.
When a team loses two goalies. The entire organization’s depth chart moves up. So it will be Adin Hill and Ivan Prosvetov. In these situations it is simply a next man up situation. The Arizona Coyotes can be comfortable with Adin Hill manning the crease for most games until Raanta returns.
Hill has 34 NHL games under his belt over the last 4 seasons, all with the Yotes. The 25-year-old was drafted 76th overall in 2015 and has been getting starter minutes in the AHL since the 2016-2017 season. Hill is slowly developing into what could be a full time NHL goalie with a lot of time in his career to get better.
Over the last couple of years, Raanta and Kuemper have both had injury periods that lasted weeks at a time but rarely have they been absent at the same time. We know Kuemper is week to week but depending on how long Raanta will be gone, this could be a great chance for Adin Hill to show he can handle himself in the NHL not only on a game by game basis but to play multiple games per week over a long stretch.
Even when Raanta returns which is expected to be soon, we can expect Hill to get maybe a game or so each week. Nonetheless, he has yet another opportunity to play some NHL games and gain more experience and skill in the highest level.
Since everyone has the fast approaching expansion draft on their mind, Adin Hill could be in the conversation for General Manager. We know he is particularly interested in taking on young players. In terms of goalies, Seattle would look at teams with tandem situations who have to leave a good goalie unprotected. Teams like Columbus, Florida, Minnesota or maybe even Carolina, Vancouver.
