This news comes at a very odd time, seeing as we are only 1 month away from Zack Snyder’s Justice League and the new Superman & Lois show has just begun airing, but WB seems to be officially rebooting Superman with a new film. Superman’s last solo film was 2013’s Man of Steel directed by Zack Snyder and starring Henry Cavill. Cavill has long stated that he wanted to wear the cape again, but that possibility is seeming much less likely now.
This new Superman project is going to be produced under J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Label, who has already been rumored to be developing several other DC projects for HBO Max involving Justice League Dark characters. The Superman film will be written by Ta-Nehisi Coates.
It seems WB isn’t even waiting until Zack Snyder’s Justice League comes out before sending a clear message that they are going in a different direction moving forward. It is unclear at this time if this Superman reboot is going to connect with Matt Reeve’s The Batman world but I would not be surprised if that is the case as there have been rumors WB was looking to connect a Superman to that world.
