Hi, here is my 3rd mock draft of the year. It is my pre-combine mock draft. Hope you enjoy it. You can follow me on Twitter @aaron_truesdale.
1. Jaguars: Trevor Lawrence QB Clemson
Now I originally had Fields here in my previous mock draft and I think I over thought it. With the shoulder surgery and Meyers being named head coach. So therefore Ohio State Quarterbacks usually don’t tend to do well in the NFL and Meyers knows that. So he will go with the can’t miss prospect in Lawrence.
2. Jets: Penei Sewell OT Oregon
With Lawrence off the board, the Jets will decide to go with the best offensive tackle in the draft in Sewell to protect Darnold next year.
3. Dolphins: Devonta Smith WR Alabama
A lot a people believe Chase is the best receiver in the draft but I don’t think he is and the Dolphins will see it as well and draft Smith. He in my opinion is a once in lifetime wide receiver and I feel he is the best receiver in the draft.
4. Falcons: Zach Wilson QB BYU
Time to move on from Ryan. Falcons will do just that and Select Wilson out of Byu. Who I feel is the most talented quarterback in this draft. This will be an easy choice for the Falcons.
5. Bengals: Kyle Pitts TE Florida
Now with Sewell off the board the Bengals will take a different route and take what might be the most dynamic playmaker in this draft. So they will give Burrow another great weapon in Pitts.
6. Eagles: Ja’marr Chase WR Lsu
With Wentz gone, it is Hurt’s team now and you need to get him a go-to weapon and Chase is the right guy for the job.
7. Lions: Micah Parson LB Penn St.
Now that they have acquired Goff from the Rams the Lions will start rebuilding their defense. Taking Parson will be the first step towards that and he will be a great guy to build around for years.
8. Panthers: Caleb Farley DB Virginia Tech
Some people have the panthers taking Quarterback in this spot I do not because I believe they will either sign one or acquire one via trade or just stick with Bridgewater. So I have them improving there defense by selecting Farley who I believe is the best cornerback in this draft class.
9. Broncos: Mac Jones QB Alabama
I believe the Broncos are done with Lock and will be looking to replace him. They will do just that by taking Mac Jones out of Alabama. I believe he is the perfect fit for Elway and the Broncos. He will help them get a step closer to being a playoff contender.
10. Cowboys: Gregory Rosseau EDGE Miami (Fl)
The Cowboys need tons of help on the defensive side of the ball. I am big believer that a good defense starts with a good pass rush. Rosseau should be a tremendous first step in putting pressure on quarterbacks.
11. Giants: Alijah Vera-Tucker OL Usc
The Giants need help on the offensive line to protect Jones so they Draft Vera-Tucker who is the most versatile lineman in the draft so it will be easier to draft other lineman later in the draft.
12. 49ers: Justin Fields QB Ohio St.
The 49ers are ready to move on from Garoppolo. They will be shocked Fields is still on the board so therefore they will not be slow to pull the trigger on Fields.
13. Chargers: Rashawn Slater OL Northwestern
Justin Herbert is a beast. Now you have to protect that beast. Slater is perfect fit because he is also a versatile offensive lineman. I believe he is the 2nd best lineman in the draft. Great value for the Chargers.
14. Vikings: Kwity Paye EDGE Michigan
Vikings need help on defense and could use a better pass rush and Paye is good start with that. The Vikings will get a top 10 talent at 14.
15. Patriots: Jaylen Waddle WR Alabama
Belichek doesn’t like rookie quarterbacks. That’s why I believe they will sign one in free agency and he will have to get that quarterback a dynamic receiver and drafting Waddle will give them just that.
16. Cardinals: Christian Darrishaw OT Virginia Tech
One thing was evident last year and that they need to protect Kyler Murray and they will do that by selecting Darrishaw. He will be a good step to getting him that protection.
17. Raiders: Zaven Collins LB Tulsa
One thing the Raiders lacked on defense last year was they couldn’t put pressure on opposing quarterbacks. That will be there priority in the draft. They will take Zaven Collins to help take that first step towards pressuring the quarterback.
18. Dolphins: Patrick Surtain II Alabama
The Dolphins took Smith out of Alabama with there first selection in the draft. So defense will be the focus here and they will go back to Alabama on this selection and take the son of a former Dolphin Patrick Surtain II.
19. Football Team: Trey Lance QB North Dakota St.
Now I believe Smith will be back for the Football Team or some other veteran quarterback will be there. Drafting Lance who is raw to sit behind a veteran for a year so he can develop into a franchise quarterback.
20. Bears: Terrace Marshall Jr. WR Lsu
There are no quarterbacks for the Bears to take at this point. I also believe they will take care of that need in free agency. So they will focus on another big need and that’s wide receiver with the good chance there losing Robinson in free agency. So they will try and fill part of that void by taking Marshall.
21. Colts: Jaycee Horn DB South Carolina
Colts got there quarterback next year when then acquired Wentz from the Eagles. So now they will focus on making there defense even better by improving the defensive backfield and they will do just that with Jaycee Horn.
22. Titans: Carlos Basham Jr. EDGE Wake Forest
Titans need to improve there pass rush so to help with that they will draft Basham out of Wake Forest.
23. Jets: Najee Harris RB Alabama
Jets improved there offensive lineman by drafting Sewell with the second overall pick. Now they will go to the offensive side again by getting a running back behind Darnold by taking Harris out of Alabama
24. Steelers: Jalen Mayfield OT Michigan
I had Bolton here in my last mock because he is truly the perfect fit for the Steelers and I wouldn’t be surprise if it turns out to be Bolton. I feel the offensive line is a much bigger need and I know Pouncey retiring it leaves a big hole at center but I believe the Left Tackle is the most important part of the line because you got to protect your quarterbacks blindside drafting Mayfield will do just that. Remember Villenuva is likely gone too.
25. Jaguars: Trevin Collins OT Oklahoma St.
The Jaguars got there franchise quarterback earlier now you need to protect him taking Collins will help provide that protection.
26. Browns: Nick Bolton LB Missouri
Browns need help at the linebacker position it was a big weakness on their defense last year. Bolton is a guy who is quick, athletic, can rush the quarterback, and can drop back into pass coverage. So it will be a great addition for the Browns defense and a steal for the Browns at the 26th pick.
27. Ravens: Kadarius Toney WR Florida
The Ravens need to get Jackson another weapon and they will do that with Toney. Just what the Ravens need more speed and explosiveness on offense but that’s what Toney will provide for them.
28. Saints: Aaron Robinson DB Central Michigan
The Saints don’t need much but I think a defensive back is something that will make their devastating defense even more devastating. The upcoming Robinson is just the guy to do that. I believe he is a huge steal for the Saints.
29. Packers: Samuel Cosmi OT Texas
First things first got to protect Rodgers. Cosmi is a great first step in giving Rodgers the protection he needs at his age.
30. Bills: Christian Barmore DT Alabama
The Bills want more of pass rush from there front four and Barmore is guy who can provide that rush. He is a little weak at stopping the run but he is devastating to opposing quarterbacks.
31. Chiefs: Alex Leatherwood OT Alabama
With two of the Chiefs lineman set to hit free agency and also they need to add more depth at that position even if they sign a lineman or two in free agency. So Leatherwood is the guy that can be a starter and provide depth so he is a good fit for the Chiefs who got to protect Mahomes.
32. Buccaneers: Kyle Trask QB Flordia
The Buccaneers are another team that doesn’t need much because I think they will address most of their needs via free agency but the one thing they won’t cover is the future at quarterback. So they will draft Brady’s successor in Trask out of Florida.
Please comment and let me know what you think. Also if you would like to discuss any of the picks with me. Feel free I would be happy to have a discussion with you.
