Zack Snyder Justice League | First Trailer Breakdown

It’s finally here. After 3 long years of fighting DC and Snyder fans are finally getting what they want. Zack Snyder’s Justice League releases on March 18. And the first official trailer has just been released. And no surprise, it’s amazing. I think most people know from the first BvS trailer, that Zack Snyder knows how to make a great trailer and this is no exception. So I’m going to break down this trailer shot by shot. If you haven’t seen the trailer yet, watch it right here:

The trailer begins by showing us the iconic death of Superman from BvS. Then we hear a quote from Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor, once again from BvS, where he warns that “he” meaning Darkseid, has heard of Superman’s death and will be coming. As this quote plays we see destruction, both around Superman’s death, as well as in Themyscira.

After this the trailer shows us a bit more of the knightmare future we got a taste of in BvS, as we hear Batman explain his ‘dream’, we also get to see a bit more of Darkseid and his family as this quote plays. (His family being Desaad and Granny Goodness.)

This is followed by several shots and lines of dialogue that we have already seen, but it is cool nonetheless to see them fully finished. These shots include Steppennwolf fighting the Amazons and Batman recruiting Aquaman. We also get to see some new looks at many members of the league including the Flash and Cyborg.

Some great quotes from Alfred and Jonathan Kent play (Kent’s being from Man of Steel, while Alfred’s is presumably from Justice League) as we see some of the shots from previous teasers.

And the teaser ends with what everyone is talking about. We get to see and hear Jared Leto’s Joker in the Knightmare timeline. He says “We live in a society where honor is a distant memory, isn’t that right? Batman!” The implication being that Batman is forced to work with Joker in this Knightmare timeline. We also are able to see Cyborg in the background of the shot (as well as in a previous Knightmare shot), confirming he survives to the Knightmare timeline as well.

As for my personal opinions on the trailer? It was awesome. Extremely well cut together, not a ton of new information given away but enough to keep people interested. The Joker scene is the huge takeaway I think. The Knightmare timeline is obviously extremely important to Snyder’s film and Jared Leto’s Joker looks and sounds awesome. I seriously cannot wait to see this film.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League streaming on HBO Max, March 18th.
