It’s Time to Show Tom Brady Respect

Hey everyone I hope you all are doing well. I know the title might not make sense to a lot of you but allow me to explain. We are hours away from watching Tom Brady play in his TENTH Super Bowl. Yeah, TEN!!!!! Do you know how many NFL players would kill to just play in one? With the ever changing salary cap, rosters, injuries, coaching changes and now changing teams this is truly a remarkable feat that we will NEVER see again. But what do you hear all this week leading up to the game: Baby Goat vs Old Goat. I mean what in the actual F&%$? Patrick Mahomes has had a very good start to his young career and hopefully it’s a long successful one but BABY GOAT? How about you win a few Super Bowls first? I mean the guy is playing in his second and he’s already baby goat? Let me dive into this a little more

You see that photo above? That is Patrick Mahomes with two of the best pass catchers in the NFL. Patrick Mahomes was drafted in 2017 and only started one game that year which was the last game of the year against the Denver Broncos. But the way people and the sports media blow smoke up this guy’s, well you know, you would think this guy has accomplished all this success all by himself and it’s not the case at all. Kareem Hunt, Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelce, Sammy Watkins, a solid offensive line and don’t forget one of the better coaches ever and offensive minds Andy Reid leading him. Let’s not undersell the value of Mahomes sitting a year and being able to learn from a respected quarterback like Alex Smith and what that did for him as far as learning about what it takes to prepare and all the little things he learned from Smith that Mahomes says really help him even to this day. The Kansas City Chiefs won their division in 2017 with a record of 10-6 so let’s not kid ourselves and act like this kid took over a 2-14 team and took them to the Super Bowl. I’d love to see if he was this good if he got drafted by the Chicago Bears. This kid is off to a hot start at the beginning of his career and I’m not trying to take anything from him but this baby goat stuff needs to stop. Let’s give this guy 10 more years before we even begin to have this conversation as it is beyond disrespectful to the guy who is the true goat and that is Tom Brady. Speaking of…

Look at all of those Super Bowl rings! With all due respect to Patrick Mahomes, Aaron Rodgers, Joe Montana, Steve Young, Peyton Manning, Eli Manning, Drew Brees or whomever else Tom Brady is the greatest quarterback to ever play in the NFL and it’s not even close and I’m unsure if anyone will ever get to that level again. Players will tell you its hard to get to one Super Bowl let alone ten. It’s absolutely mind blowing the amount of success Tom Brady has had especially this season in a pandemic, with no camp, learning a new offensive system, new players, etc. Plus defeating a top Washington defense and future hall of fame quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees to get to the Super Bowl is a great feat as well.

Tom Brady holds the NFL record for most playoff wins by a quarterback with 33, and the record for most playoff games started (44). Including Super Bowls, Tom Brady holds the record for most post-season road wins by a quarterback (13). Excluding the Super Bowls, Tom Brady and Joe Flacco are tied for the record with 7. Brady has stated he plans on playing a few more seasons so these already impressive win totals will most likely just keep growing. Brady, while in New England, dealt with an ever changing offensive cast of players, turnover in coaches, injuries, and adversity within the organization, and reported “tension” with coach Bill Belichick to achieve all this greatness. He could take a guy from Wal-Mart and turn them into a Pro Bowl slot receiver. Brady has a tireless work ethic as many of his current and ex teammates will attest to. He is the first man in and the last man out of the building everyday and because of him leading by example that’s why his teammates and peers have tons of respect for him as he plays and prepares for the game the right way. From his insane 14 conference championship game appearances, to the game winning comeback drives in the regular season, postseason, and Super Bowl, Brady has really accomplished it all. Coming back from two 14-point deficits against a GREAT Seattle Seahawks defense to overcoming a 28-3 deficit against the Atlanta Falcons just a few years back are just two of the ones the stand out to me. This guy is a legend and we will never ever see another one like Tom Brady.

To wrap this up as much as I respect what Patrick Mahomes has accomplished I won’t put him in a category anywhere near Tom Brady regardless of the outcome of today’s game. If Mahomes puts up the body of work over a 20 year career that Brady has, then we might have a debate but we are YEARS AND YEARS away from that conversation. I hope we get another one of those classic Super Bowl games between Brady’s Bucs and Mahomes’ Chiefs but the one thing I want you all to take from this is: Put some respect on Tom Brady’s name and quit being so quick to appoint a new GOAT. It is truly disrespectful to all that Tom Brady has not only accomplished but done for the NFL and the great sport of football.

Have a great day everyone and enjoy the game.
