John Cena on his Future with WWE

WWE Superstar John Cena made a recent appearance on The Tonight Show on Monday Feb 1st. Cena was there as a guest of Fallon’s to promote his upcoming HBO Max series titled Peacemaker. One of the reasons Jimmy had Cena on the program was so they could give fans an exclusive sneak preview of the show. Cena will star as the lead main character Peacemaker in this new series. Fallon and Cena not only discussed the show, but what’s next for Cena and the WWE was brought up during their discussion.

I should mention Cena was dressed up as the Peacemaker and even stated this was the first interview The Peacemaker has done. Now how cool of Cena to really get into character here and to show his true dedication on display for an exciting new project. He was doing the interview from the set of the series. Talk about some real commitment. Cena described the character Peacemaker as, “a “douchey bro-ey Captain America.”

When the topic turned to WWE, Fallon asked Cena the question if he will be back in action for the company. Cena answered, “Yeah I will.” He went on to address that the circumstances are unfortunate because the state of the world currently. “I mean I’m not sitting there on the couch next to you.” Cena described the time as not only difficult but also unpredictable, “and right now I’m doing this, I’m filming Peacemaker, and that’s going to take a lot of my time.”

Cena talked about the challenges with travel due to international COVID-19 restrictions. “I can’t bounce back and forth because of it. So, at least for the time being I’m here and I’m still away from WWE, but I very much look forward to returning as soon as I possibly can.”

Cena has been in Vancouver, British Columbia on location filming The Peacemaker for HBO Max. He did address his WWE Status and rumors concerning WrestleMania 37. Cena did an interview with Sports Illustrated earlier in the week, where he explained to Justin Barrasso why he cannot make WrestleMania this year. It will be the first time since WrestleMania 19 back in 2003.

Cena said he would be unable to make it to Tampa for the event, and then return to Canada for filming due to the restrictions from the virus. The Peacemaker started filming in the middle of January. Cena also stated the show will wrap up in July, and that there is no logistical way he can make it to WWE’s biggest show of the year in April.

Cena also has been a part of a new Mountain Dew ad campaign and sweepstakes that was released just this week. The last time we saw John Cena on WWE television was WrestleMania 36 in 2020 where we saw Cena lose to Bray Wyatt in the Firefly Funhouse Match.

Cena will be in the new Suicide Squad film and its release date is August 6th, and the HBO Max series will soon be released after that, consisting of 8 episodes. Cena also played “Think Fast!” during his segment with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show.
