One of WWE’s biggest and most popular stars made it official on Monday night Raw that he will be entering this year’s Royal Rumble match. That wrestler is none other than Edge. He appeared in a video on Raw where he cut a promo. Just last year, “The Rated-R Superstar” made his shocking return at the Rumble match. I tell you why Edge making such a comeback as he did worked both in storyline and reality because it was true about Edge having to retire due to serious neck injuries he suffered from for ten long years. And he already had history with Randy Orton last time Edge made his historic WWE return.
Unfortunately for Edge his long-awaited return to the ring did not last long. However he did get to be involved in a great feud with Randy Orton where both wrestlers fought in a “Last Man Standing” Match at WrestleMania 36 and the two men also competed against each other in the Main-Event at the Backlash pay-per-view. Unfortunately he suffered a torn tricep injury during what was billed as the “The Greatest Wrestling Match Ever” at the event.
He vowed to win the Rumble and also promised he would become the World Heavyweight Champion. Edge brought up the fact that he never actually lost title during his last reign as Champion.
Going back to an interview Edge did with Booker T in July, he detailed his injury and also what the doctors had told him that he likely entered the match with a tricep partially torn and how he was injured when he jumped off the second turnbuckle into an RKO from Orton. “I had done a springboard into a second RKO. I went ooh.” Edge explained how he had cold sweats and, “I felt like I’m going to throw up. That’s usually a sign, that’s where it popped,” Edge told Booker.
He continued discussing more about what happened during the “Greatest Wrestling Match Ever, “I thought, okay, I think I have a little bit more in the tank to finish this out.” Edge opened up more about what his goals are for the rest of his final run with WWE. “I want to finish on my terms. I’m really stubborn on that in this run, I guess. I really want to, with this, try and show that selling still sells,” the wrestler stated. “I feel that’s been lost. Don’t get me wrong, I’m guilty, too. You can watch the TLC matches and say ‘but, but, but!’ And I get it. I was young and I was there and I did it. I was always told by the Steve Austin’s, by the Undertakers of the world, ‘hey man, if you just slowed down and tried this and that.’ When I started doing that, that’s when I started making real money. I see stuff and I’m like, man, everybody is so athletic, so gifted, doing stuff that I couldn’t fathom. I just want to try and show that if you did a quarter of that with all of those little things in between, now you’re painting masterpieces that will be able to be around for a while because they’ll have longevity this way.”
Who’s excited about “The Rated R Superstar” Edge entering the Royal Rumble? I know personally that I am, but more importantly we want to hear from you. So leave us a comment in the comment section.
