One of the most exciting things in hockey for a player is scoring a goal. However, as a fan, sometimes the celebration that ensues is just as if not more exciting to watch! Here’s my list of Top 10 hockey goal cellys (in no particular order of course) from as far back as I can recall watching growing up as a kid! So sit back, enjoy these highlight reel goals, and of course – take in that celly!
Milan Hejduk | Colorado Avalanche vs Dallas Stars
Colorado Avalanche forward, Milan Hejduk, scores a beautiful curl and drag and goes post and in on Dallas Stars goalie, Ed Belfour. After the goal – he goes for a swim across center ice.
PK Subban | Montreal Canadiens vs Chicago Blackhawks
Montreal Canadiens defenseman, PK Subban rifles one top corner on Corey Crawford to win the game in OT and book Montreal’s ticket to the playoffs. After the goal – he goes straight for Carey Price who bowls him over.
Sean Avery | Los Angeles Kings vs Nashville Predators
NHL pest, Sean Avery, shows persistence and some cheeky hand-eye coordination banking one in off Nashville goalie, Tomas Vokoun. After the goal – he goes off to the corner and does three pushups on the ice!
Žigmund Pálffy | New York Islanders vs New Jersey Devils
“Ziggy” Pálffy beats Brodeur from a near-impossible angle on the powerplay to make the score 3-2. After the goal – as he goes off to the corner with teammate Travis Green and plants one on him!
Theoren Fleury | Calgary Flames vs Edmonton Oilers
Theo Fleury takes advantage of an uncharacteristic giveaway by Oilers captain, Mark Messier, and goes in alone on Grant Fuhr beating him five-hole and giving the Flames a 2-1 win in Game 6 to force a Game 7. After the goal – Fleury literally went end-to-end.
Tie Domi | New York Rangers vs Buffalo Sabres
Unlikely goal scorer, Tie Domi, scores on a big rebound off Sabres goalie Clint Malarchuk. After the goal – he paid tribute to Tiger Williams riding his stick through the neutral zone.
Alexander Ovechkin | Washington Capitals vs Tampa Bay Lightning
Alexander “The Great” scores his 50th of the season on his first shot of the game on Mike McKenna coming down the right wing. After the goal – Ovechkin made sure everyone on the ice knew he had a “hot stick”.
Jamie Benn | Dallas Stars vs St. Louis Blues
Stars captain, Jamie Benn, shows some patience and accuracy as he scores the overtime winner against a helpless Carter Hutton. After the goal, Benn snaps his stick over his left knee.
Marek Malik | New York Rangers vs Washington Capitals
Marek Malik shows some magic! After going scoreless on the season, Malik barreled down the middle in a shootout and went top shelf on Olaf Kolzig (and hit the water bottle) to win the game for the Rangers. Though the goal would not count on the stat sheets – it was a hell of a great way to score his “first”. After the goal – a straight face salute to the crowd.
Teemu Selanne | Winnipeg Jets vs Quebec Nordiques
In March of 1993, the “Finnish Flash” Teemu Selanne broke Mike Bossy’s rookie mark scoring his 54th goal. After the goal – he tossed up his glove and took a few shots!
Auston Matthews | Toronto Maple Leafs vs Colorado Avalanche
After having a goal called back in his previous shift, Auston Matthews came back onto the ice and fired a rebound past former Leafs goalie, Jonathan Bernier to give the Leafs a 2-1 lead. After the goal – and almost immediately, Matthews pointed to the net motioning the goal suggesting this one counts!
