2021 Wild Card Day 2 Review

Wild certainly described the football played on day 2 of the Wild Card weekend. Let’s take a look at the games.

(4) Tennesse Titans Vs (5) Baltimore Ravens

This game was bananas from start to finish. Lamar Jackson finally got over the hump and had his first postseason win in his career after losing his first two. This game wasn’t about Lamar Jackson though, this was all about the Baltimore Ravens defense. This defense held the Titans’ offense to 209 yards of total offense. Rushing leader King Derek Henry finished the day with only 40 yards.

I stated that the X factor for this game was gonna be Titans QB Ryan Tannehill. He didn’t come through for his team. Tannehill finished the day 18/26, 165 passing yards, 1 TD, 1 INT, 71.5 QBR, 83 Passer Rating. All okay numbers but not enough against these surging Ravens.

Final Score: Ravens 20 Titans 13

(2) New Orleans Saints Vs (7) Chicago Bears

The Bears didn’t have enough offensive firepower to contend or even compete in this game. QB Mitch Trubiskey finished the day throwing 19/29, 199 passing yards, 1 TD, 13.1 QBR, 96.8 passer rating. Not great numbers and even though this doesn’t tell us the whole picture of this game it’s enough to tell us that Mitch isn’t the future for this Bears franchise.

The Saints did enough to get them over their demons from last year’s Wild Card game against the Vikings. Drew Brees finished the day throwing 28/39, 265 passing yards, 2 TD, 57.1 QBR, 107.3 passer rating. The QBR scares me a little bit for Drew as he and these Saints are heading deeper into this postseason. They possibly are gonna need to go through RB Alvin Kamara (23 carries, 99 rushing yards, 1 TD).

Final Score: Bears 9 Saints 21

(3) Pittsburgh Steelers Vs (6) Cleveland Browns

Man oh man, what a crazy and weird game this was. Cleveland scored 28 in the 1st quarter. The first play of the game was a horrific snap from Pouncey to Big Ben that resulted in a Cleveland TD. QB Big Ben finished the day with 47/68, 501 passing yards, 4 TD, 4 INT, 66.8 QBR, 85.5 passer rating. The Steelers need to find an identity this offseason. The attack isn’t balanced at all. Is RB James Connor the answer? The Steelers fell apart and went 1-5 in the last 6 games of the season.

The Cleveland Browns finally get to rejoice with the city of Cleveland. What a huge moment for this franchise and city that hasn’t won a playoff game since 1994. QB Baker Mayfield finished the day with 21/34, 263 passing yards, 3 TD, 92.8 QBR, and 115.2 passer rating. He had an amazing game and did what was asked of him in order to win this game. This team is built to win at the trenches and they are gonna need that week in and week out if they wanna advance to the super bowl.

Final Score: Browns 48 Steelers 37
