College Football Playoff Predictions

It’s that time again college football fans! It’s time for the playoffs and it’s time for me to upset some fan bases. As a Michigan fan growing up in Ohio this is always a rough time of year due to the fact that Michigan is a train wreck and Ohio State is top 4 every single year. But I still enjoy the hell out of college football especially the playoffs. This year I feel the selection committee got it right with these four teams and the best team in the country is definitely one of these four. Who do I think is going to take home the championship you ask? Well lets not waste more time, here are my predictions for the college football playoff.

Alabama vs. Notre Dame odds, predictions, betting trends for College Football Playoff semifinal - Report Door

(1) Alabama vs (4) Notre Dame- The Rose Bowl

Notre Dame is coming off of getting blown out by Clemson in the ACC Championship game and Alabama is coming off of beating a very good Florida team in the SEC Championship. Unfortunately for Notre Dame fans I think this game could end up worse for the Fighting Irish. Even with the Tide losing center Landon Dickerson to a season-ending knee injury in its last game, I still think this offense is a well oiled machine. WR DeVonta Smith, who should IMO win the Heisman, is going to dominate the perimeter and when you got RB Najee Harris running as well as he is, its pick your poison for the Irish. Then you have QB Mac Jones, another Heisman finalist, who has been playing fantastic all year. I expect Notre Dame to fight and keep it close early but Ian Book and his guys just don’t have enough firepower to keep up with Alabama. Smith proves why he’s the should win the Heisman and gets almost 200 yards receiving and 3 touchdowns as The Tide roll into another BCS Championship game.

Josh’s Pick: Alabama 42, Notre Dame 21

(2) Clemson vs (3) Ohio State- The Sugar Bowl

Lets be honest with ourselves here. Ohio State comes into this game struggling passing the football. Justin Fields has not looked good the last two games. Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence has looked as good as he has all season and the future Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback will be looking to get back to the championship game after coming up short last year against last years champions LSU. Good news Tigers fans, Clemson will be in the title game once again. I LOVE the fact Dabo voted Ohio State so low on the coaches poll and I think Clemson will show why he did so. Ohio State’s defense hasn’t been good this year, they gave up 500 YARDS passing to Indiana and also struggled with Northwestern (who isn’t that good IMO) until the 4th quarter in the Big 10 Championship game. A game that it’s debatable whether they should have been allowed to be in altogether, but I digress. This comes down to the two future first round pick QBs in this game and I trust Mr. Lawrence in this one. Can Ohio State move the ball on this Clemson defense? Yes. Do they have what it takes to slow down Lawrence and company? No! Lawrence has been playing his best ball as Fields has been struggling and I don’t think Fields makes enough plays to keep up. A costly interception by Fields in the 3rd quarter leads to a Clemson touchdown that makes the lead too much for Ohio State to overcome. Sorry Buckeye fans, Trevor Lawrence is sending you home empty handed once again.

Josh’s Pick: Clemson 38, Ohio State 24

BCS National Championship Game- (1) Alabama vs (2) Clemson

Here we go again right? It seems like these two teams play every single year and rightfully so. Year in and year out these are by far the two best coached teams in the nation. Lawrence vs Jones. Saban vs Dabo. This is going to be a great one. This game is going to have A LOT of points ladies and gentleman as these two teams have firepower all over the offensive side of the ball. I feel each time either team gets the ball in this game, they will most likely score points. That’s how good these quarterbacks and offenses are. There is NFL talent all over the field in this game. Alabama is coming in after missing the title game last season and you have Clemson wanting to avenge its blowout loss to LSU last year in the title game. Something has to give. I have to go with the Tide here but this game is going to be CLOSE. I have no idea how Clemson is going to cover all the weapons Alabama has. RB Najee Harris and WRs DeVonta Smith and John Metchie III are going to be too much for Clemson to contain. Just like in the game against Notre Dame it’s a pick your poison kind of game. This game literally could come down to whoever has the ball last. I feel this game is going to be a classic. Mac Jones will hit Smith with a 38 yard touchdown pass with under a minute left to give Alabama another college football championship. Trevor Lawrence will head to the NFL as his legendary college career comes to an end (once he opts for the draft) and Nick Saban will win his 7th national championship. Roll Tide in this instant classic.

Josh’s Pick: Alabama 45, Clemson 42
