As 2020 comes to a close, it’s been a very trying year for everyone, but lucky for MMA fans our sport was the first sport back, and has been on a white hot streak ever since. In those months we’ve had some of the best finishes in the business. So not only has our sport survived, it thrived and for that I am forever thankful to the UFC for giving us entertainment and sport in this trying time. So all the KOs on the list are remarkable and not in order of best to worst, just the top ten KO”S of 2020!!
#10 Conor McGregor KOs Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone
(UFC 246 1/18/20)
This Knockout generally wouldn’t make any list, but just the thought of Conor McGregor making his comeback at welterweight nonetheless against a very dangerous opponent in Cowboy Cerrone makes it pop. The fight didn’t live up to the hype by any means, but I think it did make history for Conor being the first person to knock someone out by shoulder bumping an opponent’s chin! Check it out for yourselves:
#9 Jan Blochowicz KOs Dominic Reyes
(UFC 253 9/26/20)
Folks this a phenomenal knockout. A beautiful over hand left that wobbles Reyes and he’s finished with TKO punches on the ground. The best part of this knockout for me was how Reyes dismissed Blachowicz to even give him a challenge because he was still running high on his last fight against Jon Jones which many people thought he won. The biggest part of this KO is that it won Blachowicz the vacant LightHeavyweight Championship.
#8 Kevin Holland KOs Ronoldo “Jacare” Sousa
(UFC 256 12/12/20)
Gotta say when I saw this knockout last saturday, and the first things that came to mind is the terrible referee in this match who should have stepped in WAY before he did. He had great position and let “Jacare” take two extra shots to his head after already being completely knocked out FROM THE BOTTOM. You heard me, he was directly under “Jacare” and swung for the fences with a right and folded “Jacare” backwards and landed two more for good measure!
#7 Jiri Prochazka KOs Volkan Oezdemir
(UFC 251 7/12/20)
Prochazka made his UFC debut against Oezdemir and I gotta tell you guys this fight did not disappoint to say the least. It was a back and forth gunslinger fight with both men hurting each other in the first. Prochazka taunted him throughout the second a landed a left jab then a devastating right cross to end Ozzy’s night.
#6 Cory Sandhagen KOs Marlon Moreas
(UFC Fight Night 10/10/20)
This was a great fight between two highly ranked Bantamweight fighters. This fight went until 1:03 in the second round and Sandhagen connects with one of the most impressive wheel kick knockouts you’ll ever see!!
#5 Kevin Holland KOs Joaquin Buckley
(UFC Vegas 6)
These are two of the biggest up and coming names for the year 2020, and two names you’re gonna see again on this list later down the line. This fight showed Kevin Holland has patience, which combined with his power and skill are what’s gonna make him in my opinion a big star in the Middleweight Division in 2021. Holland weathered the Buckley storm from early on and finally blasted Buckley with a beautiful right hand!! But this fight was definitely a fun one to watch!
#4 Khamzat Chimaev KOs Gerald Meerschaert
(UFC Fight Night 9/19/20)
This fight legitimized the fact that Khamzat Chimaev was indeed a game opponent who would fight anybody, anywhere, anytime. He took this fight three weeks after his last fight that took place on fight island. Meesrchaert is a grappling guru who trains with Roufusport; a well rounded journeyman. I myself thought Gerald would win this fight just with his experience alone. The last thing I expected was a laser right hand at 17 seconds into the fight. This was definitely the biggest shocker of the night, I even think it stole the thunder from the Covington vs Woodley fight that would come after it!! Ladies and Gentleman you gotta see it to believe it!!
#3 Francis Ngannou KOs Jairzinho Rozenstruik
(UFC Vegas 5/9/20)
You can’t make this kind of list without Francis Ngannou’s name on it, and he definitely made this year’s top ten KOs of the year 2020 with his devastating KO of Jairzinho Rozenstruik. The fight had been planned to happen earlier in the year, but because everything got crazy because of COVID it was delayed. Rozenstruik is a knockout artist himself and was building quite the reputation for it. His start was definitely on the rise and this was a dream match for most people because they hoped this fight would bring big time fireworks. I’ll be the first one to tell you it didn’t disappoint, as Ngannou knocked Rozenstruik out within twenty seconds on the clock in the first round!!
#2 Cody Garbrandt KOs Raphael Assuncao
(UFC 250 6/6/20)
This is by far one of the greatest hands down knockouts you’ll ever see. You have Cody Garbrandt knocking out Assuncao with his hands down, dodging punches Assuncao is throwing, and the outta nowhere Garbrandt throws a flamethrower right hand with his back against the cage. As soon as it landed Assuncao was completely out!!!
#1 Joaquin Buckley KOs Impa Kasaganay
(UFC Fight Night 10/1/20)
First off, we need to thank Abu Azaitar for pulling out of this fight for undisclosed reasons, so the always game Impa Kasaganay stepped up to fight the white hot Buckley. This fight saw Buckley throw a left high kick that Impa had caught and then threw a spinning back kick that knocked Kasaganay on the flat of his back at 2:03 in the second round. This KO would earn Buckley the performance of the night bonus and go on to break all sorts of records for twitter and viral video shared online. This is definitely the most popular knockout for MMA the year of 2020!!
