SYG: Premier League Predictions 15/12 – 17/12

The midweek games have returned due to the end of the group stages for the European competitions. This means every team will be playing two games this week before the hetic run of games during the festive period.

The games this weekend didn’t disappoint, minus the Manchester derby, and I expect that we will see more shock results during this weeks games. So here are our picks for the round of 13 in the Premier League.

Wolves Vs Chelsea

This season sees an incredibly small points difference between the top four and the second half of the table, meaning that a run of bad form for any team could be costly. That being said, neither of these side will be holding back during this game as both will be looking to maintain pressure on the teams above.

Chelsea, on paper, have one of the deadliest attacking line ups in the league. Players like Werner, Havertz, Pulisic and Ziyech are all fantastic but their main man right now is Giroud. This game is calling for the experienced French man to do what he does best and find space in the box and get the all important goal.

Wolves, however, have a solid back line and will be looking for quick counter attacking football with their quick wingers such as Podence, Neto and Traore. Although they won’t have much of the ball for this game, they will trouble the Blues on the break which should make for a very entertaining game.

My Prediction – Draw

Dan’s Prediction – Chelsea

Man City Vs West Brom

This game could be a goal fest. There will be nothing worse for West Brom ahead of the Gruelling festive period than to have to travel to the Etihad for their first game.

Man City will be disappointed with thier display at Old Trafford on Saturday and will be looking to make up for that in style. Dropping points in 6 games this season already and sitting in 9th is not the way Pep visualized his Christmas. They will need to kick intop gear if they have any hope of catching the top 4.

West Brom will just be hoping to not conceed too many in this match. The Baggies went 1-0 down to Newcastle within the first 18 seconds and if they defend like they did against Newcastle, then they will be in for a long evening.

My Prediction – Man City

Dan’s Prediction – Man City

Arsenal Vs Southampton

Arsenal will have thought that they would be coming into this game with 3 points, but a own goal and a red card for Xhaka means that they sit 15th in the league. In comparision Southampton are 4th after an amazinbg start to the season and only sit 2 points behind top spot.

The Gunners have lacked a creative flow up top and Mikel Arteta will be kicking himself, especially with the creativity his squad bolster. A complete change in midfield is needed for this side to start threatening teams if they want to be anywhere near the Europa League next season.

The Saints the do have the ability to threaten this weak Arsenal side and will be looking to add insult to injury when they face off on Wednesday. If results go their way we could see Southampton sitting at the top of the table by the end of the week.

My Prediction – Southampton

Dan’s Prediction – Southampton

Leicester Vs Everton

This game will be all about counter attacking football. Both sides are deadly on the break and could cause each other a lot of problems if too many players get forward.

Leicester have one of the best strikers in the league with Jamie Vardy always looking to pop up with a goal. But the main difference between these two sides are in goal. Kasper Schmeichel is one of the very best in the league, rarely out of position and a impossing figure from set pieces. His presence in goal could be vital.

Whereas Everton have struggled with Jordan Pickford in net again this season. The England number 1 has looked less than convincing, minus the odd outstanding save, he has been caught out of position a lot and will be looking to gain some cofindence from the Chelsea match. Clavert Lewin and Richarlison will fancy themselves against Schmeichel but will find it diffcult to beat him.

My Prediction – Leicester

Dan’s Prediction – Everton

Leeds Vs Newcastle

Leeds seem to be able to do everything but gain 3 points this season. They are playing at a level way above their position in the table and will be kicking themselves for not being in the top 10. Newcastle on the other hand will be happy sitting in 12th and only 3 points behind 6th.

Missing Koch and Llorente will be a horrible headache for Biesla’s side heading into the busy festive period, especially with their high intensity style of play. Cooper hasn’t covered himself in glory at the back but young keeper Illan Meslier maybe their saving grace in this game.

The Magpies have struggled to sting a run of form together and Steve Bruce will know how important this game could be come the end of the season. With Joelinton finding some sort of form in attack and the ever dangerous Callum Wilson up top, they will fancy snatching a 1-0 win against this Leeds side who will be putting everything into coming away with 3 points.

My Prediction – Newcastle

Dan’s Prediction – Leeds

Fulham Vs Brighton

What a turn around for Fulham. The last 3 results looked like heavy defeats for the London side but taking 4 points from Leicester and Liverpool could be the start to saving their Premier League status. But a tough task faces them in mid week when they play relegation rivals Brighton.

With only 2 points seperating the two sides, both will be looking to come away with maxmium points. Fulham looked unlucky to not come away with all three points against Liverpool and with the fans being back at Craven Cottage, they will be trying to inspire the players for another great performance.

However, this Brighton side are a hard team to break down. Although they aren’t the most versitile in attack, the defend from the front and put pressure on the midfield to leave gaps in behind. A cagey affair is on the cards for this game but an exciting game for both sides.

Mr Prediction – Draw

Dan’s Prediction – Brighton

Liverpool Vs Spurs

The clash for first place. Both sides will be looking to create a gap between one another and begin the long journey to the Premier League title.

Liverpool, although hit with injuries, have still performed to an outstanding level with many youngsters stepping up and over performing. Jurgen Klopp will be happy with how his side have coped during the injury crisis but will be hoping for a little more than what he saw against Fulham.

Spurs, on the other hand, will feel this is their game to lose. Only dropping points to Palace thanks to a fantastic goal keeping performance, both Kane and Son will feel like they can get at this weakend Liverpool defence and cause a lot of headaches.

My prediction – Spurs

Dan’s Prediction – Draw

West Ham Vs Crystal Palace

West Ham came away with all 3 points from Elland Road on Friday and will be feeling confident of recipricating that feat at home. Nevertheless, the challenge of Crystal Palace is something that can never be underestimated.

West Ham are one of the most deadly teams from set pieces this season and will be looking to punish Palace from corners and freekicks. Ogbonna and Soucek have been outstanding and with Declen Rice holding the line in midfield and comfortably bringing the ball from the back, they will feel that there is a chance to break this Palace side down.

Palace will feel reliefed that they came away with a point against Spurs and can thank their keeper for that. But they will need more from their danger man Zaha if they want to trouble this West Ham side away from home.

My Prediction – West Ham

Dan’s Prediction – West Ham

Aston Villa Vs Burnley

Villa and Burnley, two teams on different sides of luck in the league this year. Villa have shown that they should be in the top flight with some great performances against top teir opposition, whereas Burnely have struggled to get going.

Dean Smith’s men will be thanking the lord that they ended up winning their last match against Wolves. A late penalty took all three points but he will be expecting a lot more from this side that are capable of beating this Burnley side.

Burnley have managed to scrap themselves out of the relegation places with a win over Arsenal but are still only a point above the drop zone. Although the win against the Gunners and point against Everton are great results for them, I can’t see them replicating either of those performances in this game.

My Prediction – Villa

Dan’s Prediction – Villa

Sheffield United Vs Man United

This could go either way. We could end up with a goal fest or a very boring draw. Sheffield United seem to be unlucky at the start of the season but have now fallen into the trap of playing with no confidence and are just accepting defeat.

Manchester United on the other hand have been very up and down in terms of form this season. They go from being unplayable to unwatchable from game to game. Waiting for Bruno to bail them out each week is something that needs to be changed or else this side will only fall further and further down the table.

But this could be the game for Man United to try and gain some confidence against a side that have lost 11 of the opening 12 games. I don’t expect this to be an entertaining game to watch but a crucial game in both sides season.
